Frankenshop sequel ideas that got dropped.
Frankenshop was a labor of love but I did have ideas for a potential sequels. The problem is most sequels are satifying or good. I don’t think Frankenshop needed a sequel but I still had chronic world building disorder by the time the book was out there in the world.
My main idea was a prequel short story about a character who is only briefly mentioned in the first chapter. That would be Igor the hunchbacked aistants retirement as Dr.Frankenstein’s asistant . I was aware of the character from the movies “Son of Frankenstien “ and the more recent “Victor Frankenstien “. In reality the character is not found at all in Mary Shelly’s novel and a completely hollywood invention. Then I thought there already was a prequel to Frankenshop:Frankenstien by Mary Shelly. Although technically it is more of a sequel to the ouvre of Frankenstien films. The popculture osmisis vision of the monster and his creator. Mainly I use iconography from the 1931 film which was highly influencial for me and my growth as a young author. I even have a sort of ode to the film in my portfolio on my website. Another prequel or spin off idea was a sort of cross over with another public domain : Herbert West. Herbert West is a sort of parody of a mad scientist invented by horror author HP Lovecraft. The original story The story “Herbert West :Reanimator “ is a multi part pulp serial published originally in a humor magazine called Home Brew back in the 1920s.. It was also adapted losely in a series of horror comedy films in the 1980s. The trouble is that the original herbert west isn’t all that funny and I feel that he was worth exploring in a story outside of the universe of my own work. Ultimately I decided to leave Frankenshop as a stand alone work.
